Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged young Nigerians to actively participate in politics rather than limit themselves to social media commentary.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the senator reminded Gen Z citizens of the constitutional age requirements to contest elective offices in Nigeria:
President — 35 years
Governor — 35 years
Senate — 35 years
House of Representatives — 25 years
State House of Assembly — 25 years
Council Chairman — 30 years
Councillor — 25 years
He noted that many of today’s leaders were in their late 20s or early 30s when Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.
Sani encouraged young people to “spare some time from social media and take up the challenge.”
