Washington, D.C. The United States may expand its travel restrictions to cover more than 30 countries as the administration of President Donald Trump moves to further tighten immigration policies.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem disclosed this during an interview on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle”, stating that while she would not name an exact number, the list of affected countries now exceeds 30 and remains under ongoing review by the President.

“I won’t be specific on the number, but it’s over 30, and the president is continuing to evaluate countries,” Noem said.

Earlier in the week, the Secretary drew attention after issuing a strongly worded post on X, expressing support for a broad travel ban on countries accused of enabling irregular migration into the United States.

A June memo from the US State Department reportedly identified several African countries as possible additions to the travel ban list, including Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria. The memo cited issues such as weak passport and identity systems, as well as the refusal of some countries to accept nationals deported from the US.

The renewed debate over immigration restrictions gained momentum following a recent shooting incident near the White House involving an Afghan asylum seeker, which reignited discussions around immigration, security, and visa policies.

US officials maintain that the proposed measures are aimed at improving national security and enforcing immigration compliance, while critics argue the approach risks diplomatic strain and unfairly targets developing countries.
