Former Nigerian international Henry Nwosu has passed away after spending five days in hospital battling for his life.

The news of his death was announced by former teammate and football icon Segun Odegbami, who disclosed that Nwosu died at about 4:00 a.m. at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he had been receiving intensive care since Wednesday.

Odegbami described the late football star, fondly called the “Youngest Millionaire”, as a remarkable figure in Nigerian football whose passing has left him deeply saddened.

Nwosu, a key member of Nigeria’s historic 1980 Africa Cup of Nations–winning team, was widely celebrated for his contributions to the nation’s football development.

Odegbami prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and extended condolences to his family, friends, and the Nigerian football community.

May his soul rest in peace.
