Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar on Tuesday dismissed the allegation of state involvement in religious persecution, calling it “impossible” under the country’s constitution and laws.

Speaking alongside German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin, Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s “constitutional commitment to religious freedom and the rule of law.”

His remarks came in response to a question about U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of potential swift military action if Nigeria fails to curb the killing of Christians by Islamist insurgents.
