Lecturers in Kaduna State-owned institutions of higher learning have embarked on an indefinite strike following repeated failure by the state government to fulfill its obligations as agreed upon in negotiations.

In two public notices signed by Comrade Usman Shehu Suleiman, Chairman, Joint Union Of Tertiary Institutions, Kaduna State (JUTIKS) and Dr Christopher Nuhu Yerima, Chairman, College Of Education Academic Staff Union, Gidan Waya chapter, the unions expressed profound disappointment with the government’s failure to fulfill its own promised obligations.

Their non-negotiable demands are two:full implementation of the CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure which has been unchanged for 14 years and enforcement of 65- year retirement age for all staff in line with regulatory guidelines.

The widely circulated notice accused the Kaduna State Government of acting in bad faith especially by failing to implement the new salary structure in August 2025 as solemnly promised.

The State Government’s blunt refusal to honour the agreement with the unions despite repeated assurances has left them with no option than the indefinite strike which would be postponed immediately the government fulfills its own obligations.
