Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has fulfilled his promise to support women entrepreneurs across the state through the disbursement of ₦21 million in cash grants. This initiative demonstrates his administration’s firm commitment to women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic growth.
The disbursement ceremony, held recently at the main auditorium of the Old Katsina Government House, was officially launched by the wife of the Governor, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, who was represented by the wife of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hajiya Maijidda Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir.
It would be recalled that Governor Radda made this pledge last month during the graduation ceremony of the Katsina State Coalition of Women Organizations’ Skills Acquisition Programme, where 1,050 women were trained in various vocational and small-scale business skills.
The ₦21 million grant serves as start-up capital for the newly trained women, helping them to apply their acquired skills, grow their businesses, and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, through her representative, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the grant and value the support they have received. She emphasized that when managed wisely, even modest financial support can become the foundation for self-reliance and lasting prosperity.
“Women need empowerment to stand on their own, feed their children, and support their families,” she said. “This initiative reflects Governor Radda’s deep concern for the progress and welfare of women across Katsina State.”
She further commended the Governor for his consistent efforts in creating opportunities that empower women and help them achieve economic independence.
In her remarks, the Coordinator of the Coalition, Hajiya Binta Hussaini Dangani, praised Governor Radda for his continued support of women, especially widows, orphans, and vulnerable groups. She noted that the ₦21 million intervention would significantly boost the beneficiaries’ businesses and contribute to long-term community development.
Hajiya Dangani encouraged the women to remain focused, apply both the technical and financial skills gained during their training, and use the grant as a stepping stone to expand their ventures, create jobs, and inspire others.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Usman Abu Ammar, lauded Governor Radda for his compassion and foresight in promoting women’s empowerment. He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, noting that economic independence brings dignity, stability, and moral strength.
Community leader, Malam Aminu Yammawa, described the initiative as a milestone in Governor Radda ongoing efforts to uplift women and families through sustainable economic activities.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, including the wife of the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mukhtar Saulawa, members of the Katsina State Coalition of Women Organizations, senior government officials, and hundreds of community members.
