The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Wednesday welcomed its first flight since it was shut down in March 2025 for major upgrades to meet international standards.

The milestone comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares to visit Ibadan on Friday for the coronation of the 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

Gov’ Seyi Makinde, who flagged off the upgrade in September 2024, said the project would open Oyo State to global opportunities and spur economic growth.

As part of the revamp, the airport now boasts an upgraded VIP lounge, a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility, and a new fire truck, all aimed at ensuring safety and efficiency for high-profile arrivals and departures.
