Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has renewed calls for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement shared on Facebook, Sowore said he met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to discuss Kanu’s continued incarceration.

“President Jonathan agreed that there is an urgent and compelling need to address this matter decisively and justly,” Sowore said.

He further disclosed that Jonathan promised to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss the issue.

Sowore added that the former president now joins a list of Nigerian leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana (SAN), and Senator Shehu Sani, who have called for a political resolution to the case.

Sowore reiterated that Kanu’s prolonged detention is unjust and urged leaders from all regions to support a peaceful campaign for his freedom.

“Nnamdi Kanu should be set free,” Sowore emphasized. “I remain firmly committed to peacefully mobilizing for justice and freedom in this matter.”
