Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports suggesting he would withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of another aspirant.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 2 October 2025, by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the claims as a misrepresentation of his recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service.

According to the statement, a careful review of both the video and transcript of the interview in Hausa and English shows that at no point did Atiku state, suggest, or imply that he intends to step down.

“What Atiku Abubakar clearly said was that young people and other aspirants are free to enter the contest. He further stressed that if a young candidate were to emerge through a competitive primary, he would readily support such a candidate without hesitation,” the release clarified.

The media aide faulted sections of the press for what he termed “interpretative mischief,” urging journalists to avoid stretching interpretations beyond what was actually said.

The statement concluded that the insinuations circulating in the media are inaccurate and do not reflect the Waziri Adamawa’s words.
