Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening continental governance and development efforts, with Vice President Kashim Shettima presenting the country’s position during a closed session of the ongoing African Union Summit.

Speaking on behalf of Nigeria, the Vice President addressed key thematic agenda areas, including peace and security, continental integration, sustainable development, and enhancing Africa’s collective global voice.

Nigeria endorsed the proposed institutional reforms within the African Union, emphasizing the need to strengthen peace and security governance, reinforce democratic institutions, and promote deeper cooperation with international financial institutions and the private sector.

The country also supported restructuring initiatives aimed at boosting domestic and regional resource mobilisation to ensure affordable development financing across the continent. In addition, Nigeria aligned with the proposed continental framework focused on reducing inequality through credible data systems, expanded social protection, productive employment opportunities, and inclusive industrial policies.

The Vice President noted that the reforms would position Africa for stronger economic resilience, improved governance, and long-term sustainable growth.
