About one thousand victims of various banditry attacks in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna state have received relief materials worth millions of naira.
The items were provided by the Senator representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung were earlier handed over to the leadership of the Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations CDAs, Forum for onward distribution to the affected communities.
Speaking while presenting the items to representatives of the affected communities across the three chiefdoms in Damakasuwa, the Chairman Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations, CDAs Forum, Dr Billy Ishaya La’ah said the items are meant to reduce the hardship inflicted on the victims as a result of the attacks.
Dr Billy Ishaya who expressed concerned over the challenges of insecurity that has resulted to wanton destruction of lives and properties called for more proactive measures to secure the area from this frequent attacks.
The CDAs Chairman who commended Senator Katung for coming to the aids of the victims of banditry attacks in the area said the items were shared based on the level of attacks and number of victims in each community.
He said each beneficiary is expected to get not less than three items and urged representatives of the communities to ensure the items reached the targeted beneficiaries.
He said the items included mattresses, mats, towels, detergents, soap, buckets, pots and cooking stuffs.
Dr. Billy however called on communities in Kauru Local Government to be security conscious in all they do and report any suspicious movement to the proper authorities for prompt action.
Also in separate remarks, the PDP, Chairman in Kauru Local Government Area Mr Machu Gwal and his APC counterpart Mr. Garba Dakut who also witnessed the distribution of the materials said the gesture is not meant to compensate the victims but to assist reduce their loses.
Machu and Dakut urged the people of the area to always see each other as brothers and give government full support to succeed.
Responding separately after collecting the items, representatives of the affected communities from the three chiefdoms, Chawai, Kauru and Kumana, thanked Senator Marshall Katung for this kind gesture describing it as heartwarming.
They pledged to ensure judicious distribution of the items to the actual beneficiaries as directed by the senator.
