Former Presidential Political Adviser, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has expressed scepticism over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent nomination of Nigerian envoys to foreign missions, describing the move as belated and largely ineffective.

Speaking on PoliticsNOW, a flagship public affairs programme on Liberty TV, Dr. Baba-Ahmed said little should be expected from the nominations, given the delay and the realities of diplomatic engagement within the international system.

The former adviser, who also previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that timing is crucial in diplomacy and warned that Nigeria may not reap significant benefits from the appointments due to how late they are coming.

He further cautioned that Nigerians should be prepared for the possibility that some of the nominees may be rejected by host countries, a development that could further complicate Nigeria’s foreign engagements.

Dr. Baba-Ahmed’s comments add to the growing public debate over Nigeria’s diplomatic representation and the pace of foreign policy implementation under the current administration.
